Timeline of Project: Start date: March 1st – July 31st
- March 1st to April 30th: Recruitment, assessments, and enrolment into the program
- May 1st to July 31st: 3-month education program
- August : Post-program employment planning with each student, project reporting, ongoing support to help set up rural outreach and local facility outreach projects (see below).

Individual assessment: You will begin with an individual assessment with the project lead, to determine your eligibility. This assessment will consider employment status, interest in the fitness industry, previous/current education and skills, ability to complete the course and attend sessions, and goals and aspirations for employment within the fitness industry.
Education selection: Once you have been deemed eligible for the program, you will begin to plan your education pathway with the project lead. Education will be provided by Nova Scotia Fitness Association (NSFA) and is nationally recognized. There are three certification outcomes:
Theory education: Education will consist of two parts, theory and practical hours. Theory for each course will be completed online and will entail a final exam. To help you work through the content, you will receive individual support from the project lead as well as group learning sessions. These sessions will assist you in completing work on time, preparing for exams, and applying the theory in a real working space.
Group learning: Group sessions will be conducted at the RECC facility, where all students within the program will gather to work on their own course material with guidance from the program lead. These study groups will work to enhance your learning, develop social connections, develop learning, and new ideas.
Theory Exams: At the completion of each theory element, you will undergo an online exam that must be passed by NSFA, to gain the relevant qualification. Assistance in preparing to sit these exams will be provided.
Practical hours: Participants will undertake practical training, supervised by the program lead, within the specific area they are learning. Participants will be required to fulfil practical hours by delivering discounted or free training sessions to community members and RECC staff. Each course has a specific number of hours to be completed. This will be laid out in your education planning phase from above.
Program completion: Participants will be provided with employment guidance and assistance in finding a job in the local area or setting up their own business. Employment at the RECC will also be offered as staffing needs are required. Participants will gain 1 year registration and insurance with NSFA and have the ability to apply for coverage with other Canadian governing agencies.

Education costs: The cost of education will be covered for you to complete your desired outcome/s.
Transportation: If you need transport to attend the RECC for group learning and practical hours, transportation can be arranged and covered.
