Climb learn to belay BLACK 23 09 19 1155
A CWA (Climbing Wall Association) certified Climbing Wall Instructor will facilitate this course. 

Participants will complete risk management for indoor climbing facilities, safety checks on climbing equipment, proficiency in tying safety knots, the importance of partner checks, how to manage a climber and rope, weight distribution and lowering of a climber with the use of the GriGri. 
For Ages 16 and up.

Certification will be provided after a retest which will take place a minimum of 24 hours after the Learn to Belay course is completed. 

Free for annual members
$21.85 for Non Members

CW Wall Nuts
Ages 6-8 (Must be aged 6 by the start of the program)
Group A
All new climbers between the ages of 6-8 years old or still working on building skills, strength and endurance to get to the top of the tallest wall!

Group B
For any climber between 6-8 years old that is practicing safe climbing rules and understands climbing etiquette . These climbers already have the skills, strength and endurance to climb to the top of the tallest wall.

6 weeks / 6 classes
Fee:  $60.00 (Taxes Included)



Spring 2024
May 6th - June 17th - No class May 20th
Group A: Mondays 5:15-6:00 pm 
Group B (combined class with 9&10 Group A): Mondays  6:05-6:50pm

Registration Opens:
Wednesday , April 24th for Members at 12 pm
 (in-person registration only at the RECC)
Thursday, April 25th for Public at 12 pm 
 (Online registration only)
If you are unsure which group is appropriate for the next session, the instructors can recommend registration for your child in either Group A or B.

All new climbers between the ages of 9-11 years old or climbers still working on building skills, strength and endurance for route* climbing.

Group B
For any climber between 9-11 years of age that is practicing safe climbing rules and understands climbing etiquette. These climbers already have the skills, strength and endurance to easily climb a route* with a 5.7 difficulty level.

* Route Climbing (indoor climbing): Following one colour of climbing holds for hands and feet from the floor to the top of the wall. All of our routes are assigned a grade level.

Group B
For our seasoned climbers between 12-14 years old that are consistently climbing routes* with a 5.8 difficulty level and confidently climb a route* with a 5.9 difficulty level. These climbers consistently practice safe climbing etiquette and understand the dynamics of safely belaying another climber on top rope. This group will also practice Lead Climbing.

* Route Climbing (indoor climbing): Following one colour of climbing holds for hands and feet from the floor to the top of the wall. All of our routes are assigned a grade level.

6 weeks / 6 classes
Fee:  $85 (Taxes Included)

NEW* Group Strength Training for Competitive Climbers 
FEE: $115 
Thursdays 4:00pm - 5:00pm at the Athlete Development Centre
May 9th - June 13th - 6 sessions


Spring 2024

CW Ladies Night

Ladies Climbing Nights
Drop in to the RECC to climb during one of our ladies nights on the Kohlech Climbing Wall for ages 16 and up. Limited capacity. Register by email to hold your spot.

TAKE THE LEAD (LEARN TO LEAD) 
Learn techniques to safely clip your rope into the climbing protection as you ascend. The belaying portion includes safely feeding and taking the rope for your climber while observing and evaluating the climber's technique for hazard prevention as they ascend, while using excellent communication skills between climber and belayer.

Safe belay techniques will be practiced which include catching a climber from a lead fall.
For Ages 17 and up.

Prerequisite:
1 year of belaying experience

$75 + Tax for RECC Members
$90 + Tax for Public
