Special Notice about the Nova Scotia Stampede

Special Notice about the Nova Scotia Stampede

A Message to our Community About the Nova Scotia Stampede

After careful consideration, the Board of the Rath Eastlink Community Centre (RECC), in consultation with senior management from the RECC, has made the difficult decision not to proceed with the Nova Scotia Stampede in 2026.

Over the past two years, the Nova Scotia Stampede has grown into an incredibly popular and well-attended event, drawing strong support from our community and visitors alike. We are proud of the success it achieved in such a short time, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who participated, volunteered, attended, and helped make it such a memorable experience.

The RECC is currently facing a number of operational and infrastructure priorities that require focused attention. Senior RECC management has advised that resources must be directed toward addressing these needs in the months ahead. As a result, we do not feel we have the capacity at this time to deliver the world-class event that the public has come to expect and deserve.

This was not a decision made lightly. The Board and RECC senior management recognize how much this event means to the community and share in the disappointment that many will feel.

Over the coming months, the board and management will undertake a budgeting and planning process to address the facilityโ€™s priorities. Once that work is complete, we will revisit the possibility of hosting the Nova Scotia Stampede again in 2027.

Thank you for your continued support and for helping make this event such a special part of our community over the past two years.

Special Notice on the Rustic Table Restaurant

Special Notice on the Rustic Table Restaurant

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 19, 2026

Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre Society Announces Closure of Rustic Table Restaurant

The Board of Directors of the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre Society announces that the Rustic Table restaurant, located at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Grounds, has closed effective immediately.

This decision was not made lightly. Following an ongoing operational and financial review, the Board has determined that the Rustic Table has been under consistent financial strain and that continued operation would require ongoing subsidization through government funds. For a 9-month period, ending December 2025, the Rustic Table reports a loss of approximately $110,000. The Board does not believe this is a sustainable or responsible longterm approach.

The Rustic Table has played a valued role within the community, particularly during major events such as the Nova Scotia Stampede, where it has enhanced the visitor experience and supported event operations. However, outside of the Stampede period, the restaurant has generated ongoing losses, and current operating margins provide limited ability to offset fixed and rising costs. As a result, the restaurant is not financially viable over the long term.

The Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre Society remains committed to responsible stewardship of public resources and ensuring the longterm sustainability of the facilities and services under its care. The closure of the Rustic Table allows the Society to refocus resources on core operations and community priorities.

The Society recognizes the impact this decision has on employees. Staff of the Rustic Table will receive additional information regarding potential opportunities for alternate positions within the Rath Eastlink Community Centre (RECC), where possible.

Anyone with an outstanding gift card for the Rustic Table may bring it to the RECC Welcome Desk during regular business hours to receive a full refund of the remaining balance.

The Board thanks the community, patrons, and staff for their support of the Rustic Table and appreciates their understanding as the Society works to ensure the longterm financial health of its operations.
